I’ll rent new accommodation

Is this thing on?

For almost two years now, I have been wearing the same skin: League’s Taylor. I’ve worn it so long it’s become part of how I think about my virtual self. I’ve tried on other skins, but they never really fit. In the meantime, Tableau Vivant kept putting out these absolutely stunning men’s skins: a little androgynous without being too dainty, and they looked really good on me. But they were men’s skins with men’s bodies, and let’s be honest: under all the menswear and short hair, I want my body a little curvy. So I quietly lusted after the Noctis skin, and grumbled.

And then last month, Tableau Vivant released a female version of the Noctis and Andrej skins in one tone only at Limited Couture. Oh my god, you guys, I haven’t taken Noctis off since. It’s exceptional, and it really suits me. I suspect it will stay with me for a long time.

Menswear Fashion Week was held at the end of March. I was out of town on a business trip and didn’t get a chance to explore all of it, but what I saw was extremely impressive. Sebastian Aries always puts out new releases for events like this, and he did not disappoint: three new hairs, and they’re gorgeous on women as well as men. As with many Shag men’s hairs, they take some resizing; this is not a problem. Sebastian always purposefully makes his men’s hairs easy to shrink down, so they’re technically unisex. One of the many reasons I love Shag hair.

Minor complaint: Menswear Fashion Week highlighted one of the growing problems I have with SL fashion. I wear menswear. SL menswear is, more and more, going the mesh route. This trend is relegating me to the hourglass shapes and cute skirts of women’s mesh, and all those gorgeous suits are out of my grasp. You guys, that sucks. That said, my favorite clothing item at Menswear Fashion Week was a jacket from sYs that’s coming out in a female version soon. I’ll blog it here when I can!

A follow-up post coming soon. Why? Because POSE FAIR 2012 is coming soon you guys! My favorite event of the year! My wallet’s least favorite!

About Vaki

Seriously, Mega Shark v. Giant Octopus is a masterpiece of modern cinema. What? It has Deborah Gibson in it. And there's this one scene where...what? Oh, like there's something better than a mega shark leaping out of the ocean and biting a plane in half. Whatever.

  1. You know how much I love Noctis on you. I have the exact same problem with mesh, just reversed. I’ve always taken female items and made them work for me, now… well I like boobs, but NOT ON ME.

    • Vaki says:

Yes, exactly! And you’ve always done such a great job of taking items designed for women and using them in very avant garde ways. As much as I like mesh — and I do — I find myself frustrated at the ways it’s reducing our ability to be creative with the items we buy. I’m not turning my nose up at mesh…I’m just hoping some designers continue to use sculpts where appropriate, so we can still have a little fun with our clothes.

OMG, how did I miss the female versions of these (I have the male versions and they are amazing)? I’m in both the Glam Affairs and Tableau Vivant groups 8/
I don’t suppose they are still available are they? They’d be perfect for an exhibition project I’m working on.

    • Vaki says:

Sadly, no. They were at Limited Couture, and there were only 100 copies of them available, and only for a week. I had to push people out of the way to get mine! If there’s anything I can help with, though, drop me a notecard. I’ll be glad to help out.

      • Alyx says:

That’s a shame, maybe she’ll do some more in the future.

And thank you for the offer, I may well take you up on that. I start working on the styling for the project next week, so I’ll drop you a line in-world then.

Oh, and I agree about mesh, I wear mostly guys clothes, but the mesh stuff is way to big!
